Field Trip to Thenmala Eco tourism

Off to The Thenmala!


    As part of the B.Ed curriculum, the students of Sree Narayana Guru Kripa B.Ed College, Pothencode were taken for a field trip on the 25th of February 2022. The destination chosen for the Field Trip was Thenmala Eco-Tourism. Thenmala, which lies at the conjunction of the Kollam-Shencottah road and the Trivandrum-Shencottah Road, boasts of India's first planned Ecotourism destination. It has 10 Ecotourism spots that cover the great hill ranges of Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, and Kollam districts. ‘Thenmala’ translates to 'Honey Hill' and so it is no surprise that high-quality honey is exported from this area. The surrounding dense forest is also known for the timber that is in much demand across the country. Its terrain is dotted by forests, rubber, and tree plantations and was selected by the World Tourism Organisation as one of the premier eco-friendly projects in the world. 
    All the students reached MT Theatre, Pothencode by 7:20am the spot by which we have planned to start our journey. Two Buses were arranged for the journey. Tourist Buses from Falken Holidays, Kazhakuttom, TVM. The choice for the medium of our journey was good as it provides us with the comfort of traveling. 
     There were 49 students and 2 teachers and one non-teaching staff, thus a total of 52 members were there on our bus. We have taken snacks, water, tea, and the basic necessities with our journey. We have started our journey by 7:30 am from MT Theatre. Every student along with our teachers danced and sang and enjoyed the journey. The tourist bus faculties were very much cooperative. Also, they have carefully driven the bus considering students' safety as their prime key. At 8:00 am, the bus has reached the Ambalamukku Petrol pump. After getting the fuel tank filled we have restarted our journey at 8:10am.


At 10:00 am we have reached our destination. In between, we have distributed the snacks and drinks to our friends, teachers, non-teaching staff, faculties of the bus within the bus.


After reaching the destination we have took tickets for Adventure Zone and Boating. There were lots and lots of naughty monkey families were there. After getting our Checking-in process gets completed, we have moved to our first spot that is Thenmala Adventure Zone by 10:50am.  



      We have engaged in several adventures deeds like pedal boating, rope climbing, aerial activities, etc. We had a fun time there. After finishing all the activities, we had moved on to our next destination. We have reached the Deer Rehabilitation Centre by 1:00pm. It was an amazing experience as we got the opportunity to feed the deers. A sight there really made me feel low as I come to see a few Sambar deers with lots and lots of wounds and cuts in their bodies. As we inquired about the reason, the faculty told us that it is mainly due to sunburn. After spending some time there with the deers, we have left the spot by 1:30pm and then we moved to have our lunch.


 At 1:40 pm, we have reached a nearby hotel there, Nadans Hotel, Pallimukku, Ottakkal. We had Chicken Biriyani from there. The food was so tasty. After having our food we have left the hotel by 2:30pm and moved to our most awaited destination.


We have reached Thenmala Boat Jetty by 2:45pm and we have straight into the boat to staring our boat journey along the forest of Thenmala. The boat journey gets started at 2:52 pm. After finishing our Boat journey we have spent some quality time with our friends and teachers in the forests there. It was indeed a great experience. We had ice cream from there. The naughty monkeys stole ice creams and snacks from our friends. It was a fun experience. By 4:20pm we have left the Boat Jetty.


After that, we have taken a break at 4:40pm and had our tea and snack. By 5:00 pm we have left the Thenmala ecotourism. We made the journey memorable by taking photographs and dancing and singing with friends and teachers. It was really a memorable experience. By 7:00 pm we have reached MT Theatre, Pothencode and I have reached my home at 7:30pm.

We celebrate Onam on 31st of August and 1st of September, 2022 at our college. Day 01 : On the first day, we have arranged games like musical chair, lemon and spoon race, vadamvali, sundarik pott thodal etc... We have started the day by 10 am and ended the celebration by 1:30 pm. Day 02 : On the second day, everyone wore ethnic dresses and we put athappookkalam, arranged megathiruvathira, had onam sadhya, played some games and left the college by 3:30 pm. We had lots and lots of fun. College closes for Onam vaccation on September 01, 2022 and will be reopening on September 11, 2022.

Teaching Training 2023

The third Phase of Training for Prospective teachers began on June 27th of June and ended on August 09th. As prospective teachers, we are supposed to complete 30 lesson templates which for me is about two units including six chapters. On the previous working day of training, we went to the schools and collected the portions to be taught and the timetable. With that, we have started preparing lesson templates, teaching aids, notes, etc... I was asked to complete my training at Muslim Girls Higher Secondary School, Kaniyapuram. Week 01: June 27, 2023 - June 30, 2023 Very very happy to join the school for training where I have studied from my HS to HSS. Met HM, Shajitha's teacher who taught me Malayalam during my school years. Hand over the letter from the principal to her and join for training. She asked me to meet Taresh Sir, Head of the English department, who taught me English during my school years and also was the teacher in charge of my 10th standard. Met Taresh sir and rejoice...
