GOVT.MODEL HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, VENJARAMOODU, THIRUVANANTHAPURAM
Teaching practice (TP) is a period when student teachers go into the field to gain practical and professional experience and training under the supervision of practicing teachers. Here my field to gain practical and professional experience is Govt. Model Higher Secondary School, Venjaramoodu. I got assigned to the duty of Classes 8A, 8D, 8M, and 8N and also assigned the class in charge of 8A. The first phase of Teaching Training starts on Oct 25, 2022, and ended on November 11, 2022. The Second phase of Teaching Training starts on Jan 03, 2023 and ended on Feb 10, 2023.
FIRST PHASE ; October 25, 2022 to November 11, 2022
Day 01: October 25, 2022 - It was indeed a great start, a great experience for me who always wished for a teaching career. I am happy that I chose one of the best schools for my training. A total of eleven BEd Students from Sree Narayana Guru Kripa BEd College, Pothencode joined to Govt Model Higher Secondary School, Venjaramoodu for teaching training. We all reached the school before 9:15am. We then met the Headmistress of the school and handover the attendance sheet and letter given by our Principal to her. There is limited space in the school to accommodate students and staff even then HM allocated space for us to prepare the lessons. Took classes in 8A, 8N, 8M and 8D. Happy that students are very much active and I could set up a good rapport with them. The first day's experience is giving me the motivation to move on with positive strength.
Day 02: October 26, 2022 - Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. I took 6 periods in total. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school.
Day 03: October 27, 2022 - Reached the school by 9:10am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. I took 4 periods in total. It was a great day. "SAY NO TO DRUGS-CAMPAIGN" was held at the school today. As part of the Campaign, a procession was held and I got assigned the duty to lead the students. It was a great experience. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school.
Day 04: October 28, 2022 - Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. SCHOOL PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION was held from 9:30-11:30am. Received the instructions to hold the election through the announcement. A total of six students were there in the Nomination list from 8A as class representatives. I have written the name of participants on the board entered the name list in the forms and helped students to put in their votes. This was my first election duty. By 12:10pm result got announced. With 24 votes Sreenandan got elected as the class representative. After the election regular classes were taken. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school.
Day 05: October 29, 2022- Saturday, a working day! Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. I took 5 periods in total. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school.
Day 06: October 31, 2022- Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. I took 6 periods in total. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. Day 07: November 01, 2022- Kerala Piravi Day! Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. I took 7 periods in total. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school. A tiresome day it was!
Day 08: November 02, 2022- Reached the school by 9:00am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. I took 5 periods in total. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. Dhanya ma'am and Vimala ma'am came to my class for Observation. Good feedback was received from them. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school. It was a happy day!

Day 11: November 07, 2022- Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then conducted Diagnostic tests in all 4 classes. I took 4 periods in total. It was a great day. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school.
Day 12: November 08, 2022- Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then handover the answer sheets of tests. I took 6 periods in total. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school.
Day 13: November 09, 2022- Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the remedial classes for helping students to get thorough with the difficult areas. I took 6 periods in total. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school.
Day 14: November 10, 2022- Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class, cleared doubts, and gave an overall summary of the lessons taught and learned in all these days. I took 6 periods in total. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. By 3:30pm, we have been assigned discipline duty. once all the students left the school, I signed the attendance and seek permission from HM, and left the school.
Day 15: November 11, 2022- A wrap-up day it was! Reached the school by 9:15am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then collected feedback from the children. I took 6 periods in total. Happy that not even a single child among those 130 students gave a negative comment. Very much happy to be a teacher of 130 energetic students, lovable students. I won't forget about the support which I received from HM and teachers over there. It was a great day. As students responded very well, the aim of the lesson I have planned is achieved. Day 03: October 27, 2022 - Reached the school by 9:10am and get prepared for the classes. Then went to HM Office and signed the attendance, and after that went to 8A. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. I took 4 periods in total. It was a great day. Students were made to enter the class and prepared for the prayer and pledge. After the prayer, I took attendance and then took the class. SCHOOL PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION was held from 9:30-11:30am. Week 01: January 03, 2023, to January 07, 2023
After Christmas vacation, the school reopened on 3rd January 2023.
New Year and New Beginning...I have been assigned the duty of taking classes to Class 8A, 8D, 8M, and 8E. I have to complete the portion of Unit 5 of their English coursebook. Students are awaiting to receive their marks for the Christmas examination. Asked students about their vacation, and new year plans and also helped students to frame their study habits for the new year. Another week went to an end...
After Christmas vacation, the school reopened on 3rd January 2023.

During this week, classes were taken as planned. Cleared students' doubts and helped them understand the concepts discussed. Student teachers served the Mid-day meal to the students. Dhanya ma'am came for class observation. She gave feedback about the class. JRC exams were conducted for Class 8&9 students. Student teachers were assigned the duty of invigilation. Thus five weeks of teaching practice came to an end. It was indeed a beautiful experience so far.

Week 03: January 16, 2023, to January 20, 2023
Reached school before 9:15am on all the days of this week. Signed the attendance before the prayer. Classes started with school prayer. During this week, classes were taken as planned. Student teachers served mid-day meals to the students. Engaged in school activities. Tried to understand the functions of school administration. In addition to the assigned classes, I also got an opportunity to indulge with students of 10F.
Reached the school before 9:15am all these days. Covered the portions as planned. Helped students to clarify their doubts. This is a patriotic week for the nation. Schools organized many programs associated with Republic day. A Republic day parade was conducted. JRC, NCC, Scout and Guides, and SPC candidates participated in the parade. Conducted patriotic song competitions, quiz competitions, parades, etc. as part of the Republic day celebration. Celebrated 5th Anniversary celebration of Little Kites. As part of the celebration, a Flash mob was conducted by Little Kite's volunteers at the school premises. The school magazine was published by the Deputy HM of the school in the school assembly.
Week 05: January 30, 2023, to February 03, 2023
Reached the school before 9:15am all these days. Covered the entire portions as planned by this week. Helped students to clarify their doubts. This too is a patriotic week. Jan 30, Martyr's day was celebrated in a full-fledged manner. Many programs were conducted this week. As part of the program, awareness of drug abuse was given to students. Gandhi darshan club and Sameeksha club of the school conducted many programs for students to know more about Gandhi, the father of the nation. Mid-day meals were given to RCC patients by the students. During this week, the JRC C Level exam was conducted for 10th-standard students.
Week 06: February 06, 2023, to February 10, 2023
